Twin City Rapid Transit launched 6 sister streetcar boats from Royal Moore Boatworks in Wayzata.

WHITE BEAR – STILLWATER – COMO – HARRIET – HOPKINS – MINNEHAHA

For 20 years they worked hard, steaming around the lake, caring their passengers to the various communities. Then they starting loosing favor as a mode of transportation. Gas driven cars and boats took over.

In 1926 three boats (Minnehaha, Como, White Bear) were sunk off the NE corner of Big Island, two were dismantled, and the third (Hopkins) was bought by a private party to be used for hire. It joined it’s sisters NE of Big Island in 1949.

In 1975 a commercial diver moved to the area and he heard about the boats in the lake. He spent his free time looking for them. After 54 years at the bottom of the lake, in 1979 with his team of divers, they found one. In 1980 the owner of Minnetonka Portable Dredge lent his equipment and employees to help the dive team recover the boat. It was brought to shore and there it remained for 10 years. Shortly after drying out the name was obvious – Minnehaha.
